On 12 April 1464, Bernard de Bertulh, a prominent merchant and burgher of Bordeaux, dictated his will to a notary, Jean Dubosc. Certain provisions were specified on the following day with the addition of a codicil. After the testator had died, between 13 and 23 April, the successional proceedings generated some 200 notarial deeds, throughout the year 1464 and again in 1465 and 1466. The widow, Guilhemna de Mons, acting as the guardian of her minor children and trustee of the testamentary estate, managed the family's landed property and commercial assets, while the executors were responsible for distributing charitable bequests to various churches, convents, and hospitals in Bordeaux alongside donations to private individuals, in accordance with Bernard de Bertulh's last will.
